Holger Rune and
Casper Ruud have been confirmed as entrants for the
Moselle Open among other highly-ranked players.
The Moselle Open is an ATP 250 event that is set to take place in Metz, France, from November 5-11. Among the players confirmed for the tournament is home player Ugo Humbert, who will be aiming to score a debut victory at the event held in the city of his birth.
Also competing there this year will be World No. 39 Lorenzo Sonego and World No. 11 Karen Khachanov, the latter of which has had to skip a lot of summer tournaments due to injury.
Ruud and Rune looking for redemption
Both world No. 4 Rune and World No. 5 Ruud are also on the entry list for the Moselle Open. The event's page on X, formerly known as Twitter, revealed the news with the caption:
"We're going to have some fun."
Both players will be looking for redemption in the fall following disappointing results throughout the summer. At the Canadian Open, Rune was ousted in the opening round by qualifier Marcos Giron. Ruud did not last much longer than this, losing his second-round match to unseeded player Zhang Zhizhen.
After this, the players participated in the Cincinnati Open, where Rune was forced to retire from his first-round match against Mackenzie McDonald due to a back injury. Meanwhile, in Ruud's opening round, he was defeated by Max Purcell.
This disappointment then fed into the US Open, where Rune crashed out of his first round against Roberto Carballes Baena, who won the match 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the second round, Ruud lost to Zhang again after a five-set battle.
Both could withdraw if they make ATP Finals
Nevertheless, it is still possible that both players could qualify for the Nitto
ATP Finals, which will be held in Turin from November 12-19. If they make it through to the prestigious event where the top eight ATP players face off against each other, there is a possibility that they may withdraw from the Moselle Open.
However, for now at least, there are two top 10 players confirmed for the draw in Metz, which is good news for an ATP 250 event.
