Zverev eases past Dimitrov to reach Roland Garros quarter-finals

Alexander Zverev will play in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros. The German tennis player has beaten Grigor Dimitrov in a match with very little resistance from the Bulgarian, whom the German has completely dominated and dispatched in three sets: 1-6 4-6 3-6.

In the first set, Zverev completely dominated the situation. The German started the match like a shot, breaking Dimitrov's serve early on to take a 0-1 lead with the possibility of confirming the break. It went all the way to 0-4 until the Bulgarian won his first game. Zverev pressed again to close out the first set with another break, 1-6.

In the second set, Dimitrov improved a lot. At 2-2 he got his first break of the match, and confirmed it to take a 4-2 lead and close to a set tie-break. However, at 4-3 he would suffer a tremendous disconnect, with two consecutive blank games (including a break) for Zverev to come back to 4-5. He would then take the second set of the match with yet another break despite Dimitrov's four set points (it was fifth time lucky, 4-6).

In the early stages of the third set the story would not be much different. It seemed that Grigor Dimitrov had thrown in the towel because Alexander Zverev ran three games in a row to start the set by breaking his opponent's serve at 0-1. The Bulgarian reacted by getting a break that would help him to tie the set 3-3. However, it would only be a mirage, as Zverev would string together another three consecutive games to close out the set and the match.
