Ons Jabeur has become the first African player male or female to reach the quarter-final

Ons Jabeur defeated Bernarda Pera at Roland Garros and becomes the first African player to reach the quarterfinals in all four Grand Slams.

The African tennis player has been one of the most prominent figures in the WTA in recent years. Currently ranked No. 7 in the world, she entered the top 10 in 2021 and has had a great performance in major tournaments, including two Grand Slam finals (Wimbledon and US Open 2022), the title at the 2022 Madrid Open, and the final at the 2022 Rome Open.

Jabeur's consistency has translated into success at all four Grand Slam events. In 2020, she reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, and this year she achieved her best performance at the French Open by defeating American player Bernarda Pera.

Her record of reaching the quarterfinals in all Grand Slam tournaments makes her the only African player, male or female, to accomplish this feat. Although she hasn't replicated her successes from 2022, Jabeur has managed to remain one of the most dangerous players on the tour, and she emerges as a strong contender at this year's Roland Garros.

In her quest to advance further in the tournament, she will face Brazilian player Beatriz Haddad Maia, who defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo and is also in her first French Open quarterfinals.
