Martina Navratilova has slammed US presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy's views on climate change after he claimed it was a 'hoax.'
Czech-American player Navratilova had a hugely successful career playing for the US, winning an astronomical 59 Grand Slam titles throughout her career - 18 in singles, 31 in women's doubles, and 10 in mixed doubles.
The 66-year-old, who currently resides in Miami, Florida, has taken a keen interest in the US elections, which will take place in November 2024. Despite this being over a year away, candidates are already campaigning to be their political party's nominee.
Ramaswamy claims climate change is not a threat
38-year-old Ramaswamy, who is in the running for the Republican Party nomination, recently downplayed the seriousness of climate change, saying it was a 'hoax' and that it wasn't a threat.
"I'm the only candidate on stage who isn't bought and paid for, so I can say this. Climate change is a hoax. The reality is more people are dying of bad climate change policies than they are of actual climate change," he said.
Such comments sparked global outrage, and many people took to social media to condemn Ramaswamy's words. One of these people was Navratilova.
Navratilova says she "can't believe" Ramaswamy
Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, Navratilova stated that climate change was absolutely real and that Ramaswamy was "full of hot air."
"Climate change is not a hoax and Vivek is helping it along since he is so full of hot air. Can’t believe one word that comes out of his mouth," she wrote, also including an angry-swearing emoji, a clown emoji, and a shocked emoji in her tweet.
