Andy Murray is in the mix for a deep run at this year's US Open, according to former British No. 1 Tim Henman.
A few years ago, Murray looked ready to leave the sport for good after a severe hip injury seemed as though it would make it impossible for him to keep playing.
However, after surgery produced very positive results, the Scot continued to compete, although he has never reached the same levels of success that saw him finish as the year-end world No. 1 in 2016 and win three Grand Slam titles.

Henman thinks Murray is on cusp of breakthrough

However, in an interview with the Evening Standard, former world No. 4 Henman expressed optimism about Murray's chances for success at the upcoming US Open and in the future on the ATP Tour.
The 48-year-old admitted he used to think that after the hip injury, Murray would never again be able to rely on his scurrying movements around the court to help him win matches. However, now Henman thinks that the 36-year-old is moving as well as he has ever done, leading him to predict great things for the tennis star.
"I've been massively impressed. If I'd have predicted Andy's path back from surgery, I would have got it completely wrong because I would have said his tennis level will come back and he'll hit the ball well but I think he'll struggle with the physicality and the movement.
"But actually it's kind of been the opposite. Now he has been able to build up that resilience and playing week in, week out without any issues with his hip. Now he's ranked inside the top 40 and it's not going to take much to move the needle," he said.

Henman admits Murray unlikely to win a Slam

Moreover, he voiced his prediction that Murray will be able to get deep runs at Grand Slams again, despite his disappointing second-round loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas at Wimbledon, a major that Murray has won twice in the past.
"If he wins [won] that Tsitsipas match at Wimbledon when he had the momentum, you could see him having a deep run there. And I think what very much motivates him is to get into the second week of slams and see where it takes him," Henman said.
Nevertheless, Henman also confessed that he thinks it will be hard for Murray to win a fourth Grand Slam title at this stage, although he is confident in the 2012 US Open champion's ability to win more ATP titles.
"Title wins on Tour are a definite, so too runs into the second week of a slam. In my opinion, it would be very difficult for him to win another slam," he said.
