Andrea
Petkovic commented on Rafael Nadal's potential involvement in the presidency of
Real Madrid.
The Spanish
tennis player is getting closer to retirement and has been virtually absent
from tournaments throughout 2023. Nadal announced prior to the French Open that
he would be taking the rest of the year off due to persistent injuries and
plans to return next year to conclude his career.
Recently,
some media outlets reported that Florentino Perez, the current President of Real
Madrid, might be leaving the club after winning 14 Champions League titles.
It has been
rumored that one of the possibilities Perez is considering for his replacement
is none other than the tennis legend and self-proclaimed Real Madrid fan,
Rafael Nadal.
In an
interview with Tennis Channel Live, former world No. 9 tennis player Andrea
Petkovic commented on the possibility of Nadal actually becoming the president
of the football club:
"First
of all, what do you have to do as a president? You represent, which Rafael can
represent, you go to a few press conferences and he can do that. If you have to
keep up a ball, he can do that too, so why not?" Petkovic said.
The
35-year-old former German tennis player jokingly discussed the future of the
22-time Grand Slam champion, suggesting that with his retirement on the
horizon, Nadal should start looking for a new job:
"I
don't want to think of it but soon retirement is on the horizon and you better
find a new job, Rafa," Petkovic said.
For now,
the former world No. 1 is focused on recovering from his injuries this year and
aiming to compete at the highest level in 2024, as he intends to bid farewell
to all the tournaments that have been significant in his career.
Furthermore,
there's a possibility that he might participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics,
which will be held on the clay of Philippe Chatrier Court, the very place where
he clinched his 14 French Open titles.
