Africa Cares Tennis Challenge cancelled

The Africa Caris Tennis Challenge in South Africa has been canceled due to new developments in South Africa regarding the coronavirus pandemic.

South African tennis fans will be sad to hear that the Africa Cares Tennis Challenge event has been postponed. This is due to restrictions on travel to and from South Africa, as well as growing concerns around the new Covid-19 variant, as well the resurgence of new infections.

The event which was set to take place on the 18th and 19th of December 2021 in Johannesburg and featured an exciting line-up of internationally celebrated tennis champions Venus Williams, Martina Hingis, Iga Swiatek, Simona Halep, Sloane Stephens, Dustin Brown, and Khololwami Montsi. The event aimed to not only promote tennis in South Africa but was to be used as a vehicle in the fight against Gender-Based Violence through campaigns and activations leading up to the main event.

Tendai Rukwava, CEO of TR Brand Communications & Events and Representative of the Africa Cares Tennis Event said:

"We are very sad to be postponing this event, however, the health and safety of spectators as well as the players is of utmost importance, and what led us to this decision. It was indeed a very difficult decision to make considering all the time and effort from our various stakeholders that went into the planning of this event, as well as the excitement and support from the tennis fans who had missed experiencing events of this magnitude on South African soil because of the pandemic.”

The event will now take place in 2022. New dates will be announced in due course.
