There is life in the old dog yet as the saying goes as Andy Murray didn't need five hours to defeat David Goffin and also shunned all the doubters who see his future in a retirement home instead of on the court at Indian Wells.
Murray has semi-confirmed that retirement is imminent saying that he doesn't see himself playing much post-Summer. He won 6-3, 6-2 though and faces Andrey Rublev. But if he remains watching tennis post his own career, there are three players he likes in particular.
Quizzed on the Tennis Channel after defeating Goffin, he lauded Carlos Alcaraz, Gael Monfils and Iga Swiatek in particular for different reasons. The latter even took time to respond and thank the multiple Grand Slam champion for his kind words.
“I love watching Alcaraz because of the way he plays the game. He has so much variety & power & he tries stuff. He doesn’t always get it right," he said on Tennis Channel.
"He makes mistakes and that’s also something I enjoy watching. You never know what’s gonna come next. I’ve always enjoyed watching Monfils as well. I love watching Iga. I think she’s brilliant to watch… she’s my favorite player to watch on the women’s side.”
"You are an inspiration @andy_murray Thank you," replied Swiatek to the video on X showing her appreciation towards the former World No.1.
