An imperious Daniil Medvedev is dominating Alcaraz in the second semi-final of the US Open 2023.

Carlos Alcaraz was able to neutralize Medvedev in large parts of the first set with the latter hitting some aces but also 6 double faults.
The first serve percentage of the Spaniard was at a convenient 83% compared to Medvedev's 57% in the first set, but the Russian somehow managed to bring matters to a tie break, thanks to winning still a lot of points on serve.

In that breaker Medvedev took control immediately and won it convincingly 7-3.

At a certain stage in that part of the match Medvedev's serve began to run riot with 13 consecutive points gained, a momentum that started already in the tie break and which he was able to hold onto in the next set.

Daniil Medvedev then soon found himself 3-0 up in the second set, due to formidable points taken from Alcaraz in longer rallies. Alcaraz helped speeding up this process by regularly hitting backhands in the net. Alcaraz got back to 3-1 but could not prevent the Russian going 4-1 up holding his service game, then again breaking his serve, and serving it out for 6-1.

The lead of 2-0 in sets will be very difficult for the young Spaniard to overcome as Medvedev holds a 25-0! win rate at grand slams if he was 2-0 up! Nevertheless, The two-time Grand Slam champion only narrowly leads their head-to-head 2-1, with two victories against the 27-year-old this year. The most recent of these came in the semi-finals of Wimbledon, where eventual champion Alcaraz ousted Medvedev in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.
