ATP and WTA stars took part in a fun round of ‘hot or not hot’ questions, where they discussed some of the most controversial topics in the tennis world. In a new Daily Dose of Social Media, we take a look at some of the entertaining moments that marked the day.
Amid Indian Wells, Zheng Qinwen had a hilarious reaction when asked about the streaming show she’s currently watching, while Coco Gauff and Madison Keys debated who the ‘biggest trash talker’ on the WTA Tour is. Check out other funny moments below!
The ATP and WTA stars present at Indian Wells discussed various tennis topics in a "hot or not hot" format, addressing some debated issues in the tennis world. One of the points raised was the topic of ‘underhand serves’, which many have previously considered disrespectful to the opponent, although it seems that several top stars don't have any issues with it.
"Why not, it’s a tactical move, so why not?" said Belinda Bencic, who recently reached the quarterfinals of the tournament. Other players who joined her in supporting the tactic included Naomi Osaka, Paula Badosa, Francisco Cerundolo, and Ons Jabeur, among others.
Another point discussed was ‘hitting a player at the net’, to which several players opted for ‘hot’, including Marta Kostyuk, Danielle Collins, and Leylah Fernandez. Below, check out the players' selections on other controversial topics discussed during their time at Tennis Paradise.

Zheng Qinwen laughs off streaming question after big win over Kostyuk
Zheng Qinwen secured an important victory over Marta Kostyuk in the 4th round of Indian Wells, leaving behind her rough start to the year. After just one win and three losses at the beginning of 2025, the former Australian Open finalist had no trouble defeating the Ukrainian 6-3, 6-2, advancing to the Indian Wells quarterfinals for the first time in her career. Her next challenge will be against defending champion Iga Świątek, whom she already upset at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, defeating her at Roland Garros on her way to the gold medal.
It’s all smiles for Zheng, who had a fun interaction in the on-court interview after beating Kostyuk. The 22-year-old Chinese player was asked if there was any TV show she was currently following via streaming, but the question caught Zheng off guard. “I didn’t expect this question, give me 10 seconds to think…” she said, pausing for a long moment. Zheng then looked to her box for answers but ultimately could only reply with “Help,” laughing.

Coco Gauff and Madison Keys were asked who the biggest trash talkers on tour are, with the 2025 Australian Open champion picking Gauff — though she clarified it happens off the court. World No. 3 Gauff later admitted that while there aren’t many big trash talkers on the WTA Tour, she’s been known to dish it out, especially when chatting with her ATP peers.
“Honestly, on the women’s side I don’t think anyone trash talks, but I feel that would have to be, probably low-key me, low-key talking to the American guys,” said the 2023 US Open champion.
Gauff was eliminated from the tournament in the fourth round this Wednesday, March 21, after falling in three sets to World No. 58 Belinda Bencic. Meanwhile, Keys overcame a tough battle against Donna Vekic, extending her winning streak to 15 matches since claiming the Brisbane International and Australian Open titles. Keys now has a chance to avenge Gauff, as she faces Bencic this Thursday in the quarterfinals.
Belinda Bencic delivered a remarkable performance after defeating World No. 3 Coco Gauff to reach the Indian Wells quarterfinals. The former Tokyo 2020 gold medalist entered the tournament with a wildcard, enjoying a stellar year amid her comeback after a one-year break from tennis. In 2024, the Swiss player welcomed her first daughter, Bella, but quickly returned to training with the goal of competing at the highest level once again.
Despite her extended time away, Bencic returned to the court reminiscent of her best moments, winning the WTA 500 Abu Dhabi Open a couple of weeks ago and boasting an impressive 17-4 record in 2025. Moreover, her victory over Gauff marked her first win against a Top-3 player since 2022.
The World No. 58 has captured attention at Tennis Paradise, serving as an inspiration for how players can resume their careers after becoming mothers — following the path paved by others like Victoria Azarenka, Naomi Osaka, and Elina Svitolina. After her thrilling win against Coco Gauff, Bencic shared an emotional moment in her on-court interview: "I always tell myself, ‘It doesn’t matter if I win this match, I already won in life. I have a beautiful family… I’m very blessed.’"
