Today in
our
Daily Dose of Social Media, we review the most significant activities and
Entertainment from ATP and WTA players.
Carlos Alcaraz,
Jannik Sinner, and
Daniil Medvedev gathered to reflect on the dream come true of joining the "ATP No. 1 Club." The three players have led the ranking, becoming the only ones to achieve this after nearly 20 years of Big-4 dominance.
On the other hand,
Novak Djokovic stole the spotlight at the Belgrade Open award ceremony when he handed the title to champion
Denis Shapovalov. Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal shared his final training session ahead of his retirement in just 10 days.
Dreams realized:
Sinner, Alcaraz, and Medvedev Reflect on reaching world No. 1
Jannik
Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Daniil Medvedev gathered in a pre-ATP Finals event
to reflect on each player’s journey to World No. 1. Since the Big-4 era, these
three players have reached the top of the rankings in the last three years, and
after all qualifying for Turin, they shared a few moments discussing what it
meant for each of them to be the world’s best player.
“It was a
dream for me, being No. 1 in the world. When I started playing tennis and when
I was growing up, I wanted to be there. A lot of players have achieved that, so
for me it was a dream come true,” said 4-time Grand Slam champion Carlos
Alcaraz.
“For me,
it’s amazing to be in this club; it’s, you know, as he said (Alcaraz), a dream
come true, and I think we’d all agree on that,” current No. 1 Sinner said. “For
me, it’s an ultimate goal, it’s something that you achieve over a year, you
know, 52 weeks of playing at a very, very high level.”
Shapovalov
shines as Djokovic Hands him Trophy
Denis
Shapovalov had his most notable week of the season by securing his first title
in five years. The former Wimbledon semifinalist has struggled with injuries
over the past two seasons, which caused a significant drop in his ranking.
However, winning his second career title will serve as a great motivator
heading into the next season, as well as a return to the top-60 after two
years.
The
Canadian celebrated his victory on social media, sharing the special moment
when he received the trophy at the Belgrade Open from none other than 24-time
Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. Djokovic, who decided to skip the ATP
Finals, took advantage of his time off to attend the local tournament, much to
the surprise of many during the awards ceremony. Relive the moment in the link
below.
Leylah Fernandez's stylish preparation for
Billie Jean King Cup Finals
Leylah Fernandez is gearing up to participate in the Billie Jean King
Cup Finals with Team Canada. The 2021 US Open runner-up was a key player for
the Canadian team in their 2023 title win, and they are preparing to defend the
title with a strong lineup that includes Bianca Andreescu, Gabriela Dabrowski,
Rebecca Marino, and Marina Stakusic.
This time, Fernandez shared a fun video where she went to get her nails
done and took a guess at what color her teammates would choose. “I’m just gonna
do like the French tips, with the red. I don’t know why, but that’s what I
want,” the former World No. 13 said.
Canada is the top seed, so they have a bye in the first round and will
start their journey in the quarterfinals. The team led by Fernandez awaits the
winner of Great Britain (led by Raducanu and Boulter) versus Germany (featuring
Siegemund and Niemeier as their main players).
Rafa Nadal's
final preparation: Training hard for Davis Cup
A new video
on social media shows Rafael Nadal in his latest training session as he
continues preparing for his retirement at the upcoming Davis Cup Finals. The
22-time Grand Slam champion is training at the Rafa Nadal Academy for his final
event, set to take place in Malaga, representing Team Spain.
Questions
about Nadal's physical condition remain. Captain David Ferrer commented that,
regardless, the 38-year-old player will take to the court in the series, but
it's uncertain whether he will play singles or only doubles. Nadal will play
singles only if Ferrer deems him to be at a competitive level, and the
legendary tennis player is continuing his preparations to reach his highest
level.
Team Spain
consists of Carlos Alcaraz, Pedro Martínez, Roberto Bautista Agut, Marcel
Granollers, and Nadal. They will debut on November 19 against the Netherlands,
led by Tallon Griekspoor and Botic Van de Zandschulp. If they advance, they
will face the winner between Germany and Canada.
Medvedev’s daughter
Alisa steals the show again with cute moment
Daniil
Medvedev will be participating in the
ATP Finals for the 6th consecutive time
after qualifying in the 4th spot, and is preparing for his debut against Taylor
Fritz. The Russian is one of the most experienced players in the tournament
(along with Zverev, who will also be participating).
it was Medvedev's daughter, Alisa, who stole the spotlight with heartfelt
images. While walking through the Inalpi Arena in Turin, she came across a
large promotional poster featuring her father. At just one year old, she was
amazed as she stared at the poster for several seconds.
This time,
Alisa found herself in a similar situation, now two years old, when she
encountered her father’s poster once again. She replicated the same reaction
from the previous year. The video was shared by Daniil’s wife, Daria Medvedeva.
Badosa sets
the stage for Billie Jean King Cup
Paula
Badosa is already training on the Central Court in Malaga as she prepares to
return to Team Spain for the
Billie Jean King Cup. The Spanish team will face a
tough opponent in Poland, led by Iga Swiatek, and Badosa is expected to lead
her country in a challenging series.
The former
Indian Wells champion arrives in great form after a strong end to the year,
having reached world No. 11 after reaching the semifinals in two WTA 1000
tournaments and the quarterfinals at the US Open. Recently, Team Spain was
dealt a blow with the injury of Cristina Bucsa, leading to Marina Bassols
stepping in as the second singles player.
