The Ukrainian teenager Dayana Yastremnska opened up about her life and career in the video essay My Story: Dayana Yastremska.
Dayana Yastremska is the latest player to take part in My Story. The 19-year old spoke about her upbringing and life before tennis along with her tennis life. The Odessa native was very active as a child her parents recalled.
"The character and spirit I have right now, it’s from childhood," said the rising teenager. "I was doing tennis, swimming, dancing, gymnastics, singing," Yastremska continued. "But I loved something where you can put all your energy away."
She recalled her first experience with tennis:
"First practice, I went with my grandfather. [I] realized that’s something where I have a passion, where I really want to see myself."
She established her self as a great junior and broke out into the season quite successfully. She continued
her rapid climb to become one of the
top player's at just 19 years old.
She recalled her 2019 Hua Hin trophy win. It was at a tough time for the teenager. She spoke about it in the video essay:
"My mother is in the hospital, she cannot see with her left eye. And me, hitting the balls, that’s all that I have to do on the court -- and bring this trophy back to my mother."
Despite being a fulltime pro who trains a lot she still has energy for other things. She boxes as part of her training routine, something she has done since she was 11. She also started a charitable fund which is also close to her heart. As far as tennis go she said:
"My goal now is to perfect myself on the court and off the court, be more disciplined, get Top 20, to win a Grand Slam," said Yastremska. "My dream is just to be a happy person in life."
