Former Wimbledon finalist, Sabine Lisicki will join the growing crop of mothers on the WTA Tour after announcing that she is expecting her first child at the age of 34.
Lisicki since reaching the final of Wimbledon 11 years ago has often battled with injury problems. But despite potentially having a way now to leave the sport as a result, she confirmed that she will look to make a comeback again when she becomes a mother.
"Life is full of unexpected surprises," she added. "My fiancé and I are looking forward to this exciting journey. I guess I will have to make one more comeback."
Last November, Lisicki won her first professional title in nine years when she sealed the ITF W60 event in Calgary. She had missed more than 18 months between 2020-22 as a result of a torn ACL who has also suffered further knee injuries, ankle, shoulder and a bout of mononucleosis in an unlucky run of injury luck.
Now ranked World No.374, the once World No.12 held the record at one time for the fastest serve on the WTA Tour with a speed of 131 mph and most aces in a match with 27. She has not won though on the main WTA Tour for nearly two years reaching the Quarter-Finals in Bad Homburg and showing the game is still there.
This is especially the case for Lisicki who reached the Quarter-Finals or better at Wimbledon on four occasions showing that the run to the final wasn't a flash in the pan. Congratulations to Lisicki and her fiancé.
