The second round continues with the second half of the draw at the 2024
Indian Wells Open (BNP Paribas Open) with Saturday's
Schedule now confirmed including
Novak Djokovic,
Aryna Sabalenka and
Coco Gauff among others involved.
Our preview looks ahead to the main talking points on the biggest day of action yet at Indian Wells with top matches wherever you look.
Djokovic set for return for first time since 2019
Novak Djokovic will play Indian Wells for the first time in five years during the Day Session when he takes on Aleksandar Vukic. The Serbian ace has not been allowed into the US aside from the US Open last year meaning he didn't get to play the 2023 edition of Indian Wells. But as he showed last year at the Australian Open, it often instils a fire inside the World No.1 to prove a point after being wronged in his mind.
Djokovic is a five-time champion in the Desert and hasn't played since the Australian Open unlike a lot of his counterparts. After a crushing loss to Jannik Sinner, people mooted that he was on the slide. But count out Djokovic at your peril.
American watch as Gauff, Fritz, Pegula and Paul all in action and Stearns aims for upset
As well as Djokovic, it is a day full of top American stars including Coco Gauff who begins proceedings off this evening against Clara Burel, she will be followed by another American in Taylor Fritz. He faces recent Santiago finalist, Alejandro Tabilo.
But over on other show courts,
Jessica Pegula opens up against Anna Blinkova. While later in the evening, it is the turn of Tommy Paul to face a rising American star in Alex Michelsen.
But the main American match aside from Gauff perhaps is a certain former NCAA champion and nominee for WTA Newcomer of the Year in Peyton Stearns who made superb traction in 2023. She faces Aryna Sabalenka who reached the final last year. But has not made the best start to post Australian Open life losing early to Donna Vekic in Dubai and only playing one tournament. Will Stearns be buoyed in Tennis Paradise by a night session atmosphere? Time will tell.
They are followed on by Daniil Medvedev who takes on Roberto Carballes Baena. Other top ties to watch include Milos Raonic v Holger Rune, Hubert Hurkacz v Gael Monfils and the continued return of
Naomi Osaka. She faces Liudmila Samsonova.
Emma Raducanu will also play first up when she faces story of the Australian Open in Dayana Yastremska. Superb at times during her opener, the Brit will look to continue and not face the ranking slump for losing early.
