The Battle of the Sexes is set to take place on December 28 at the Coca Cola Arena, Dubai, UAE. It will pitch the world number one
Aryna Sabalenka against
Nick Kyrgios in the controversial exhibition clash.
The duo have both been relatively confident on their chances in their matchup, inspired by its birth back in 1973. Fromer world number one Bobby Riggs challenged Margaret Court to a tennis match. The result went resoundingly his way, leading to a repeat later that year but with the legendary Billie Jean King taking him on. In a match that saw 90 million people watch worldwide, King clinched a historic victory over Riggs, defeating him 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 in a huge moment for women's tennis and sport.
This is the fourth edition of the event, with both players going into it with fighting talk smeared by a lot of different views from tennis fans and pundits. While Kyrgios goes into it as the favourite, he will have some things against him. The first is his lack of game time. The Aussie recently returned to action after another injury stricken year. He has played in two singles matches in the USA, losing both against Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul, while competing in a host of doubles matches in the
World Tennis League enroute to winning the event with the Kites.
While his match fitness and sharpness may be down, he will also have to get used to a smaller court to aim for. Sabalenka's side of the court will be 9% smaller with them only allowed to use one serve, boosting the chances of a double fault throughout.
On top of that, he will have to contend with the four-time Grand Slam champion, who in turn is no slouch. In 2025 she made three Grand Slam finals and the WTA Finals final, only coming out on top in the US Open. She is the undisputed number one on the WTA, and has been for over a year.
The match will be taken place over three sets, with a 10-point tie-break needed if the pair have both got a set on the board.
How and where to watch
The Battle of the Sexes will be broadcasted by the BBC for the UK tennis fans to watch. It will commence from 15:45 BST on BBC one with Claire Balding hosting and Andrew Cotter leading commentary on procedures in Dubai.
