Venus Williams has said that contacting American Airlines has become her new 'full-time job' after her luggage went missing on the way to the National Bank Canadian Open (Omnium Banque Nationale) in Montreal.
Tennis legend Venus has expressed her frustration at the airline on her Instagram story after her bags were intended to arrive in Canada for the WTA 1000 event, but instead ended up around 1400 miles away in the Bahamas.
The former world No. 1 was defeated in her opening round at the tournament, losing to compatriot and thirteenth seed Madison Keys 6-2, 7-5.
Venus calling airline 'day and night'
In her message, posted the day of her match in Montreal, Venus claimed to have been calling the airline non-stop in an effort to locate and retrieve her luggage. She also expressed her annoyance that things had not been resolved before her match.
"I’m not sure why you sent my bag to the Bahamas when I was travelling to Montreal. Now I have a match today. I’ve been trying to get my bags for three days now. I think I spent all my unlimited minutes calling you all which has become my full-time job day and night," she wrote, as well as tagging the airline in the post.
In addition, the 43-year-old told of how she had been a loyal customer of the airline for years, even joining its million-mile club, giving her life-long 'gold' status, the perks of which include not having to pay to check in bags.
"I love flying with you all. i'm even in the million mile club!" she wrote.
However, Venus has now also joined a large group of customers whose luggage has been lost by the airline, as it was revealed in a recent report that 26 million bags were misplaced in 2022.
Those who put their luggage in the hold on a flight to Canada are entitled to a refund if it is lost, delayed, or damaged by the airline.
