Daniil Medvedev poked fun at
Casper Ruud whilst attending a concert by popular singer-songwriter The Weeknd.
Two of the top-ranked men's singles players in the world had a fun back-and-forth via their Instagram stories during The Weeknd's performance at the Allianz Riviera stadium on Saturday, July 22.
Medvedev, currently No. 3 in the
ATP world rankings, has had a strong season, becoming the first man in the Open Era to win 18 titles in 18 different cities following his win at the Dubai tennis championships, before reaching the semifinals of Wimbledon for the first time in his career.
Meanwhile, world No. 4 Ruud reached the final of this year's French Open, where he was defeated by Novak Djokovic. This came after he recorded his 100th clay court win earlier in the season.
"somewhere in the crowd"
Following what has so far been a busy season for both men, Medvedev had a night off to relax, watching The Weeknd's performance in Nice, France.
The Canadian pop star is best known for his hit songs such as "Can't Feel My Face" and "Blinding Lights", the latter of which became the most streamed song in Spotify history.
Among one of his many major fans is Ruud himself, who tries to attend the artist's concerts whenever he can. Indeed, it didn't take long for Medvedev to make a reference to this, as he captioned a video of the concert on his Instagram story with the following:
"I'm sure @casperruud was somewhere in the crowd"
Ruud regrets not being able to attend
Unfortunately, the 24-year-old Norwegian was unable to make it to this concert, and shared his regret on Instagram by responding,
"I wish", before adding "enjoy @medwed33"
One of the major reasons behind Ruud's absence is most likely the fact that he is currently participating in the Swedish Open, and has made it to the final following victories against Sebastian Ofner and Lorenzo Musetti. He will face Andrey Rublev in the final on Sunday July 23 at around 2pm CET.
