The final four is set after Day Two of the
Ultimate Tennis Showdown with the winner set to be crowned on Sunday evening after the Round Robin phase was concluded.
Ben Shelton will face Yibing Wu, while
Gael Monfils faces
Taylor Fritz and feasibly it could be a return of the top tie from Saturday night in the final between Shelton and Monfils to decide it all.
Shelton excelled in a superb comeback defeating Monfils in Sudden Death to top Group B in Los Angeles which decided the semi-finals.
Monfils was already through before this match and danced around the court at his effortless best sealing a 2-0 quarter lead.
He said mid-match: “I love him, this kid’s going to be top 10, but I’ll whip his ass tonight."
Shelton responded: “Can I get a translation, please? I can’t really understand.”
But also did so on the court turning it around to seal the win as he had the last laugh in the end to top Group B after almost being eliminated.
Taylor Fritz and Yibing Wu topped Group A with the former recording a 3-0 standings lead taking down Diego Schwartzman 2-1 to begin the evening before defeating Benoit Paire in a dead rubber.
Yibing Wu sealed a narrow 4-3 win to see off Diego Schwartzman to book his spot, with the Argentine finishing third.
Paire was bottom but had the unlucky loser tag of most points won without winning a match.
For those unaware, UTS doesn't do traditional rules, with matches divided into timed quarters instead of sets. Players are given 15 second shot clocks for serves and the ability to take coaching timeouts.
They also have cards which allow players to affect the game in a format devised by Patrick Mouratoglou, renowned coach formerly of Serena Williams.
The tournament also heads to Frankfurt on September 15-17 with a similar line-up set to be involved but Sunday night will crown the first winner of the year.
