Petra Kvitova has jokingly revealed that her newly-wed husband Jiri Vanek, who is also her coach, must feel 'terrible' about the fact that she writes his paychecks.
Former world No. 2 Kvitova has had a major development in her personal life this year, as she married her partner and long-time coach Vanek in July.
The pair began dating in the summer of 2021 and announced their engagement in July 2022, a year before their wedding. However, the two-time Wimbledon champion recently revealed the bizarre reality of managing a romantic partnership with your coach.
Kvitova jokes that Vanek must feel 'terrible'
In an interview with the Czech press, Kvitova joked that Vanek feels awful about her being the one to write his paychecks, what with him being her coach.
"It must be a terrible feeling for him as a man, but I'm used to it," she said during her interview with Radiozurnal.
"I don't plan to, I have no idea if he would accept an offer. But so far we're doing well, so perhaps he shouldn't," she added.
Ons Jabeur in similar situation
Kvitova is not alone in this situation, as fellow
WTA star Jabeur is married to her fitness coach Karim Kamoun.
The two-time Wimbledon finalist married her husband in 2015 at the age of 21 and has since revealed to Tennis Channel that it was a big risk marrying at such a young age. However, the couple is still together today, and Kamoun often accompanies his wife to tournaments, both as her trainer and for moral support.
