Andy Murray will begin his campaign at the Paris Masters this afternoon, but one sporting feat achieved in the city over the past week was South Africa winning their fourth Rugby World Cup title.
They edged out New Zealand recording a 12-11 win, which was attended by Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic among others. But an oversight was quickly pointed out by the former World No.1 of sexism from the brand.
They proclaimed them as the most successful rugby team in tournament history. "When we believe as one, it brings victory for all. Congratulations @springboks, the new World Champions and the first rugby team in history to do it four times. A big win and an even bigger victory for every South African," Nike wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
This was then scrutinised as the Women had triumphed a record six times. "@BlackFerns have done it six times! Representation matters, words matter! Just ask @andy_murray who has consistently challenged journalists on facts ascribed to male players as having 'the best' record, when women eg @serenawilliams were top! #CantBeWhatYouCantSee," they wrote.
Murray himself replied as a player before who has called out reporters for not including Serena Williams in records. He said that it's pathetic that this is being done by such a huge company.
"You’re right. It’s pathetic that the biggest sports clothing brand in the world still does this stuff," he wrote, followed by a thumbs down emoji.
