"I've
gone through a very difficult year": Navratilova 'ok' after cancer battle
on accepting Golden Racquet
Martina
Navratilova received the Racchetta d'Oro and stated that she is doing well
after her cancer diagnosis.
The
American tennis player Martina Navratilova announced at the end of last year
that she had been diagnosed with throat and breast cancer. The 18-time Grand
Slam champion had already overcome breast cancer in 2010, and with the help of
radiation therapy, she stated in March 2023 that she has beaten cancer:
"As
far as they know, I'm cancer-free," Navratilova said.
The
66-year-old former tennis player spoke in an interview with Piers Morgan of
TalkTV after resuming her activities as an analyst for Tennis Channel:
"I've
gone through a very difficult year, but now I'm OK."
"Tennis
gave me a surprising life for which I am very grateful," she said. "I
always tried to give something back when I played and also in retirement,"
she added.
Navratilova
is one of the most successful tennis players in history and is tied with Chris
Evert for fifth place in the most Grand Slam titles won, having won 18 of these
titles. She is also the tennis player (male or female) with most Wimbledon titles
in history, with 9.
