Taylor Fritz is currently at the Stuttgart Open, looking to defend his title from last year. However, there is a gaping hole in his box left by his ex-partner Morgan Riddle after the pair broke up back earlier this year. Riddle has since spoken what happened while sharing her motivations not to ever date an athlete again.
Fritz and Riddle have had a very noticeable relationship in the sport, being followed from afar by many fans as Riddle is normally seen in his camp at tennis matches around the world. That is no longer the case with the pair having gone their separate ways.
The duo began dating back in June 2020, and almost six years later are no longer by each other;s side after the news was released a couple of months ago. There was humour behind this on Riddle's behalf who emphasised that they are still on good terms.
"When public relationships end, it’s standard to do some sort of Instagram statement or video, and I tried to write that a few times and I was just like, ‘This is not me,’” she told Elle. “We’re on good terms, so I wanted to make it more lighthearted than breakups usually are online.”
She completed this by posting herself with a t-shirt saying 'world's best ex-girlfriend.' This confirmed the news that people were bracing themselves for with rumours coming out about their relationship. One was thought to be shut down by Riddle who commented: "@taylor_fritz damn did you know about this??"

List of non-negotiables: “I’ll never date an athlete again”

Riddle is now enjoying life blissfully away from the torment of social media with her girlfriends. While her job is an influencer, in the past with an aim to make tennis 'cool again' which went viral. She regularly posts pictures and videos to her social media, but for the time being has distanced herself away from all of that.
"People would get offended by everything in the tennis world, and it didn’t only reflect on me, I had to reel myself in a lot. Now I don’t have to do that anymore,” she stated. She now resides in LA. “Living in L.A. the last five years, I was always so excited to go on the next trip. But I had to go to London last week for two days and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I miss New York,’” she says. “I love my new Barbie dream house apartment.”
As for relationships going into the future, the American has come up with a list of 'non-negotiables' to seek in a partner. “I made, like, a 33-point non-negotiables list for [my next relationship]. It has basic things like political alignment, shared life goals, intellectual intimacy, no sports betting or gambling, only makes my life happier,” she says. “When I look toward my next relationship, I will prioritise being loved in the way that [Colton - best friend] loves me. I think that’s the most important lesson out of all of this. I would not have been able to make the decision I made or do what I’ve done the last two months without him.”
There was also one more very key non-negotiable left until last: “I’ll never date an athlete again.”

Busy grass season for Fritz

Back to the tennis, and it is set to be a hugely important period for Fritz who is severely lacking rhythm and match time after a heavily abrupted clay swing. Grass is a very favourable surface for him, portrayed by him winning the title in Stuttgart and Eastbourne last year along with a run to the semi-finals of Wimbledon, only losing to Carlos Alcaraz.
It is a crucial time for Fritz not to only gain those points back, but to find his mojo once more on court. Injuries have hampered his 2026. Normally someone who will regularly compete in the majority of tournaments week in week out, this may have come back to bite him with the former US Open finalist less regularly seen in recent times.
He will hope that soon changes and a bit of momentum is started up at the Stuttgart Open this week. He has the young Spaniard Martin Landaluce to compete with after getting a bye to the second round. Tournaments at Halle and the title defence at Eastbourne soon follow before that all-important Wimbledon campaign.
