Once the clay swing concluded, the
ATP Race to Turin was updated with
Alexander Zverev —
Roland Garros champion — moving up to second place, although still with a notable gap to leader
Jannik Sinner, while injured Carlos Alcaraz remains comfortably in third position and the name of
Flavio Cobolli emerges in the upper section of the rankings.
The Roland Garros finalist collected 1,300 points for his breakthrough run in Paris and climbed to fourth place in the
ATP Race, moving closer to a potential qualification for the ATP Finals for the first time in his career. He is not the only player in qualification positions for the first time, as Arthur Fils and Jakub Menšík also maintain their spots inside the top eight of the year, holding positions that currently grant access to the season-ending tournament.
Among the leading names, Russian Daniil Medvedev and American Ben Shelton also feature, two players who did not produce strong
Roland Garros campaigns but whose season-long consistency keeps them firmly in the upper tier. After Roland Garros, the Race has tightened significantly at the top, with players ranked from No. 6 to No. 16 separated by fewer than 500 points.
This means the grass swing will be decisive, with Wimbledon as the third Grand Slam of the season and a key factor in determining who arrives in strong position for the final stretch of the year. Rafael Jódar, Félix Auger-Aliassime and Casper Ruud are among those who made notable progress on clay and are now building serious chances of qualifying for Turin, while Novak Djokovic has seen several players overtake him, dropping to No. 13 in the Race.
Zverev closes gap to Sinner after first Grand Slam title
Alexander Zverev made history on Sunday by winning his first Grand Slam title and taking advantage of opportunities created by the absence of the biggest favourites, securing 2,000 points in the ATP Race that allowed him to overtake injured Carlos Alcaraz and significantly reduce the gap to Jannik Sinner, who remains leader after a dominant run of five consecutive Masters 1000 titles despite an early exit in Paris.
However, Zverev has now closed the distance to under 1,000 points, setting up a decisive grass swing in which Wimbledon could determine the new leader of the Race in just a few weeks, while Alcaraz drops back to 3,650 points, sitting almost 1,500 behind second place but still comfortably inside the top 3 with more than 1,000 points of advantage over Flavio Cobolli, who despite his Roland Garros final run still sees the top positions as a longer-term goal rather than an immediate target.
Daniil Medvedev remains another constant presence in the upper tier despite an early exit in Paris, with the Russian already collecting two titles this season and holding a 24–9 record so far, and now entering the grass swing as a key opportunity to continue adding points and maintain his position inside the top 5, reinforcing his status even without producing his best tennis in recent months.
Arthur Fils and Jakub Menšík emerge as ATP Finals contenders
Outside the top 5, the Race becomes significantly tighter, especially after the strong breakthrough run by Jakub Menšík to the Roland Garros semifinals, where the Czech player collected a notable number of points after a series of impressive wins and briefly looked capable of producing a surprise in Paris before falling in the semifinals to eventual champion Zverev, a result that still leaves him inside the top 8 and in direct qualification position for the ATP Finals.
Jakub Mensik celebrates win Roland Garros 2026
Just ahead of him sits Arthur Fils with 1,890 points, still strong after Roland Garros and maintaining his position without major setbacks, despite having already missed two Grand Slams this season, with his consistency keeping him inside the top 6 and increasingly shaping him as a serious candidate not only for the top 10 but also for a potential Turin qualification if his level remains stable.
Completing the top 8 is Ben Shelton, who suffered a disappointing second-round exit at Roland Garros but still holds his position inside the qualification zone, although several players are now closing in behind him, led by Félix Auger-Aliassime and also including Casper Ruud, Rafael Jódar, Alex de Minaur and Novak Djokovic among others, all pushing into a highly compressed mid-table where small differences are already defining the Race dynamics.
