Tennis Canada confirms that they've received a letter of approval from the Public Health Agency of Canada to host the National Bank Open in Toronto and Montreal. The tournament runs August 7-15. Plan is to host 5,000 fans in both cities per session.
The National Bank Open also known as the Rogers Cup has been given final approval to go ahead next month.
Held between August 7-15 with the ATP side in Toronto and WTA in Montreal, there were some doubts on the tournament going ahead despite entry lists being released due to current state of the pandemic in Canada.
But this has now been resolved with the federal government and Public Health Agency of Canada approving Tennis Canada's fans to not only host it but also have 5,000 in each session in each city.
“Tennis has played an important role in keeping Canadians inspired, active and healthy over the last year, and our government is pleased that Tennis Canada will host the National Bank Open and welcome the sport’s greatest players back to Montreal and Toronto this year”, said Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Heritage, in a statement.
