It has been revealed that
Novak Djokovic will play for Serbia at the 2024
United Cup after he signed up just before the deadline.
This means that the World No. 1 will begin the 2024 season with this tournament, which will take place in January between Perth and Sydney ahead of the Australian Open in Melbourne, where Djokovic will be aiming to defend his title and achieve a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam victory.
The Serbian player has previously opened up about how he views representing his country as "one of the greatest honors," saying it is why he values the Olympic Games as much as he does.
"One of the greatest honors for an athlete is to represent your country at the Games. I had the great honor of carrying the flag at the opening ceremony in London, and for me the Games are a very special competition," he said.
Djokovic set for second edition of Cup
This will be the second edition of the United Cup after the combined event was held for the first time last year. It is a mixed-gender team tournament played on outdoor hard courts among the Top 18 countries of the previous season.
The inaugural tournament was won by the United States, whose team consisted of top-ranked players such as Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, and Jessica Pegula.
Moreover, Djokovic will play as part of Team Serbia in the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup in November after leading them to qualification in the group stage last month.
