Maria Sakkari has surpassed the 10 million dollar mark in terms of earnings after her victory at the Cymbiotika Guadalajara Open AKRON.

The World No. 9 took on Caroline Dolehide in the final of the WTA 1000 event. In order to set up the clash, second seed Sakkari ousted each of her opponents, including third seed and World No. 11 Caroline Garcia, in straight sets.

This perfect run at the tournament did not stop there as the Greek player emerged victorious 7-5, 6-3, against Dolehide to win her first-ever WTA 1000 title. This victory was especially sweet as it came after a disappointing season for Sakkari, including a first-round exit at the recent US Open.

Sakkari joins exclusive list

The 28-year-old has now become the latest WTA player to have earned over $10 million in prize money earnings after she took home $454,500 from her victory in Mexico. This brought her total prize money up to $10,262,923.

This also puts Sakkari's current season earnings at over $2 million, meaning that she is eleventh on the list of highest prize money earners in 2023, just behind US Open semi-finalist Madison Keys.

This comes just weeks after 19-year-old Coco Gauff surpassed $10 million following her first Grand Slam victory at the US Open, where she collected $3 million in prize money. According to the Forbes list, four-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek is the highest-earning WTA player in 2023, with an estimated income of $22.4 million including off-court sponsorship deals.

Sakkari's latest win will also put her in a good position to qualify for the WTA Finals, held from October 29 - November 5 in Cancun, Mexico.

With Aryna Sabalenka, Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, and Gauff having already secured their spots, there are only four left up for grabs. Among the other players attempting to qualify are Ons Jabeur and Jessica Pegula.

Her ability to suffer, to accept criticism, to work with her head down not caring what was said about her, her strength and her smile, but also the tears that made her incredibly human Maria Sakkari is the WTA 1000 Guadalajara champion, and it feels very well deserved ❤️
