Spanish veteran Carla Suarez Navarro might not be the most successful female Spanish tennis player, but she is definitely one of the toughest.

The former World No.6 has had an impressive career, making 11 WTA finals and winning two of them (Portugal Open 2014, Doha 2016). Furthermore, she has reached the second week of every Grand Slam tournament, making the quarterfinals on seven occasions.
The 31-year old announced her plans to retire at the end of the 2020 season, with the intention of saying goodbye to some events that hold a special place in her heart. However, with the advent of the coronavirus and it's effect on the WTA circuit, there is some uncertainty regarding the rest of the season.
Nonetheless, she has not let this setback dissuade her from retiring this year. "As of today I am not considering it, I said that 2020 would be my last year and it will be almost 100% that way." Suarez Navarro informed Mundo Deportivo.
"We will see if we can play more tennis or not this year, my favourite tournaments have been cancelled and I will not be able to say goodbye for the last time in a few Olympics because they will surely be cancelled."
Suarez Navarro originally had plans of saying goodbye at her home tournament in Madrid this summer, an event where she has made nine appearances.
"If it [the WTA Tour] were not played more in 2020, I would see a possibility of being able to say goodbye in Madrid 2021. says the Spaniard. At the moment I have not been able to say goodbye to some tournaments that for me were very special, we will see what happens from now on with tennis tournaments.”
