Fans were left unsatisfied with the second day at the Arthur Ashe Stadium of the US Open after quick matches featuring Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Jessica Pegula, and Venus Williams.
The anticipation surrounding the US Open is acknowledged by fans and players alike in the ATP and WTA. The Arthur Ashe Stadium, the main court, has a capacity of over 23,000 spectators, making it the largest tennis court in the world.
The distinctive atmosphere of the fourth Grand Slam has delivered great matches on the main court, although on day 2, fans ended up disappointed with the matches that took place due to their short duration.
Not so much due to the names, as the men's world No. 3, Daniil Medvedev, kicked off the day, followed by the women's world No. 3 and local hope, Jessica Pegula. The legend and 7-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams followed, and the day concluded with world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.
However, the Russian's match lasted only an hour and fifteen minutes, resulting in a 6-1, 6-1, 6-0 victory over Attila Balazs. Pegula also played a swift match against Camila Giorgi, defeating her 6-2, 6-2.
Even more disappointing for fans was Venus Williams' abrupt defeat to Greet Minnen, with a score of 6-1, 6-1. The day concluded with Carlos Alcaraz's triumph against Dominik Koepfer, with a score of 6-2, 3-2, and Koepfer's subsequent retirement.
Fans took to Twitter to share their impressions and express their disappointment with the unusually fast-paced nature of the four matches.
"Folks, that was not a good #USOpen day. We will be back tomorrow," he wrote.
“One of the worst ever days on a Grand Slam centre court, that's for sure...” wrote the journalist Jose Morgado as he received a lot of responses about the disappointing Day 2.
