Justine Henin has hailed
Novak Djokovic after his
US Open victory saw him win his 24th Grand Slam title.
World No. 1 Djokovic solidified his place as one of the greatest tennis players of all time at the last major of the year in New York. The Serb faced third seed Daniil Medvedev in the final and defeated him in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3.
This victory means that Djokovic has equaled Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam titles. At 36 years of age, he is also the oldest player to have to have won the title at Flushing Meadows.
Henin praises Djokovic's ability
Former World No. 1 Henin, who won the women's singles event at the US Open in 2003 and 2007, has hailed Djokovic in a recent interview with Le Soir, saying he played even better than expected in the final.
"Novak was the strongest, and he demonstrated it on many levels; we imagined that he would be totally ready to enter this final, but he did it in such a precise, so committed, so intense way," she said.
Henin added that the Big Three member has also closed many debates in the sport about the greatest player with his dominance in the US Open. He only dropped two sets throughout the Slam - this being in his third-round match against compatriot Laslo Djere.
"We look for the words, because we no longer find them, concerning him. When we finally see this emotion we can imagine and we know all the work behind it, all this commitment, all its sacrifices, all its questioning, at 36 years old.
"There are no words, no matter how hard we look for one, but the debate is closed on many things, we have never seen a player so strong and he demonstrated it again in this final with style," she continued.
