Holger Rune has slammed
US Open organizers, claiming they haven't answered his questions about his court allocation.
World No. 4 Rune crashed out of the last Grand Slam of the year in New York after he lost to
Roberto Carballes Baena in the opening round yesterday, Monday, August 28.
However, before his shocking defeat, the 20-year-old was raising questions about his court allocation, as he was placed on Court 5, the 5th most important court, despite being the fourth seed.
Rune sought explanation for court controversy
During his post-match press conference, Rune was asked if he asked about why he was on Court 5, to which he responded by confirming that he had sought an explanation.
"Of course I tried to get an explanation. They said what we all know, that they put Americans on the big court. Which is totally fine. I’m used to playing in France where they do that. So I respect that 100%."
However, Rune went on to say that he didn't believe this reason, as while many American players including Coco Gauff, Frances Tiafoe, and Venus Williams have played or are scheduled to play on the main courts, several matches without any American players were also taking place on them.
"But that’s not only the case here that it’s only Americans playing on the big court. That card didn’t really work," he continued.
Finally, the Dane expressed his frustration at not getting answers.
"You try to ask them a question and then they don’t answer you. It’s a bit tough," he said.
