Tennis fans reacted with dismay recently when Garbine Muguruza revealed that she has "no intention" of coming back to the sport.
The two-time Grand Slam champion struggled at the beginning of the season and announced that she was taking a hiatus after her first-round defeat to Linda Noskova at the Lyon Open in February.
In April, she revealed that she was extending this break to last throughout the clay and grass swings.
"Spending time with family and friends and it's really been healthy and amazing so I am going to lengthen this period till summer," she wrote on her Instagram Stories.

Muguruza content with not returning to tennis

In a recent interview with Women's Health Magazine, the Spanish player provided an update on her situation, disclosing that she currently has "no intention" of returning to professional competitive tennis.
"I am living this break very happily since it was something that my body and my mind needed. So, I am really enjoying these moments. As of today, I have no intention. My plan right now is to sleep, rest, be with my loved ones, make up for lost time ... I don't see beyond what I'm doing today, tomorrow, and this week," she explained.
This came as a blow to tennis fans, who expressed their sadness that the demands of the WTA Tour had led Muguruza to stay away from the sport.
"I think it’s so sad when players who love the sport totally burn out and want to not even be near a court. Love me some Mugu and hope she finds peace whether it includes her love for tennis or not," wrote one on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Meanwhile, another referenced former World No. 21 Amanda Anisimova, who is currently on a mental health break after experiencing burnout.
"Muguruza and Anisimova have the same mindset right now. It’s tough to know if and when either will find love for the game again. This sport is lonely & tough," they wrote.
"I read that with a bittersweet smile. Somehow I can understand when you feel punished by the sport after giving your absolute all and having no choice but to walk away from it, with love," commented another.

Garbiñe Muguruza on a comeback: “As for today, I have no intention to do it. Tennis does not occupy any place in my routine, it doesn't occupy my mind, my day or my routines, I'm really taking a real break and trying to stay away from the court.” Source👇🏼 eurosport.es/tenis/planes-g…
