Fourteen of the 16 teams competing in the US Open mixed doubles have been confirmed following previous announcements. As expected, Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu headline the entries, receiving one of the eight wildcards offered by the tournament organizers. Other notable wildcard recipients include Novak Djokovic with Olga Danilovic and the surprising inclusion of Venus Williams with Reilly Opelka.
The direct entries are led by Jannik Sinner and Emma Navarro, followed by an unexpected pairing of Paula Badosa and Jack Draper. Both found new partners for the tournament, though for different reasons. Iga Swiatek, Alexander Zverev, Amanda Anisimova, Holger Rune, and many more will be part of the interesting and revamped tournament format.

A Mixed Doubles revolution at the US Open

About a month ago, the US Open announced a true revolution in its mixed doubles event, aiming to attract more public interest. The main draw will now be played during the week prior to the singles and doubles main draws, condensed into just two days—August 19th and 20th—with a one-million-dollar prize for the winning pair.
The tournament has been reduced from 32 to 16 teams, with 8 qualifying by direct entry (based on singles rankings) and another 8 through wildcards. This change incentivized the participation of major singles stars, with a significant presence of top-10 female and male players in the draw. However, it largely excluded doubles specialists. In fact, as of now, the women's and men's No. 1 doubles players, Katerina Siniakova* and Marcelo Arevalo (who entered together), are not expected to be part of the tournament.
Matches will now be played best-of-three sets, with short sets of four games, and no-ad scoring. Tie-breaks will be played at four-all, and if necessary, a 10-point tie-break will decide the third set. The only change for the final will be sets played to six games, also with a 10-point match tie-break if needed.
*[Editor's note: Siniakova was No. 1 at the time of entry, though she fell to No. 2 this Monday at the expense of Taylor Townsend.]

Sinner/Navarro and Draper/Badosa command direct entries

The direct entries are led by Jannik Sinner and Emma Navarro as the first seeds, a pairing announced from the start and considered early favorites for the title.
Behind them is the surprise of Paula Badosa alongside Jack Draper. Both were initially entered with other partners. It was expected that the Spaniard would team up with Stefanos Tsitsipas, but all indications are that their relationship ended in recent weeks, leading them to decide against playing mixed doubles together. Badosa found Draper as a partner after the Brit was left without his partner, Zheng Qinwen, who is recovering from surgery and will not be competing in the US Open as she faces a couple of months of recovery.
Other pairs qualified by ranking include Iga Swiatek with Casper Ruud, Elena Rybakina with Taylor Fritz, and the local favorites Jessica Pegula alongside Tommy Paul.

From Carlos Alcaraz to Venus Williams: Mixed Doubles wildcards announced

The wildcards prominently feature Carlos Alcaraz alongside Emma Raducanu. Raducanu's ranking outside the top-30 kept them from direct qualification. Nevertheless, they received an invitation as two of the most renowned players currently on their respective tours, and both are former US Open champions (Raducanu in 2021 and Alcaraz in 2022).
Also, 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic secured his spot in the draw after joining his compatriot Olga Danilovic, with whom he has previously teamed up to play United Cup representing Serbia.
Several wildcards went to local pairs: 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys joins Frances Tiafoe, while doubles No. 1 Taylor Townsend teams up with Ben Shelton. Also surprising is the inclusion of former world No. 1 Venus Williams—who recently returned to the courts at the DC Open with singles and doubles victories—joining Reilly Opelka for an unprecedented partnership.
The only specialist doubles pair is that of the Italians Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, the defending champions of the tournament. However, they do not have a singles ranking that would allow them direct entry. They also won the mixed doubles at the French Open this year.

Two spots yet to be announced

There are still two wildcards yet to be announced, which will likely come from some of the pairs previously declared with the intention to play. The pair of Nick Kyrgios and Naomi Osaka could be one to receive a wildcard, although doubts remain about Kyrgios' physical condition, as he is still uncertain if he will be ready to compete in the tournament.
The other spot seemed almost certain for Aryna Sabalenka alongside Grigor Dimitrov, but the Bulgarian will not be in the tournament due to an injury announced today. It's unclear if Sabalenka will still secure a wildcard with another player or if she will withdraw from the doubles tournament.
Other strong candidates include the Italians Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti, Karolína Muchová and Andrey Rublev, Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur, and doubles specialists Katerina Siniaková and Marcelo Arevalo, among several other teams that entered prior to the tournament.
