Alicia Molik has taken the reigns as the new tournament director at the
Adelaide International and the Aussie tennis icon has had an eventful opening day in that role down to the unveiling after a young girl collapsed just as she was being announced.
The 42-year-old Aussie who is back in her hometown by taking the role was unveiled to the press and mid-interview disaster struck, which sparked the two-time Grand Slam winner into action.
Molik ran as quickly as she could and said she was merely 'reacting accordingly' and sought to 'make sure she was doing okay'. She put her first-aid knowledge to good use and rolled the girl to one side after she landed on her back and was unresponsive.
Paramedics were then called to the scene and it could've been a lot worse had Molik not intervened with the girl now understood to be recovering in hospital.
Former World No.8, Molik has since been involved with the Australia set-up since her retirement and her second at that in 2011 and is a mother of two.
Now she takes up a new role amid the fabric of the Australian tennis scene at the Adelaide International. Hopefully it won't involve a lot more of helping collapsing spectators in the future.
