Sara Errani and
Andrea Vavassori successfully defended their
Roland Garros mixed doubles crown on Court Philippe-Chatrier, overcoming Gabriela Dabrowski and Evan King 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 in testing, wind-affected conditions.
The top-seeded Italians needed 79 minutes to complete the turnaround after dropping the opening set, raising their level in the second set and match tiebreak to secure their fourth Grand Slam mixed doubles title as a pair.
The victory continues a dominant partnership that has now delivered back-to-back titles in Paris. After a slow start, Errani and Vavassori adjusted to the conditions and gradually imposed their rhythm in return games, particularly in the decisive stages of the match. The win further reinforces their status as one of the most consistent doubles teams on the Grand Slam stage in recent seasons.
For Errani, the title adds another layer to an already decorated career, bringing her Grand Slam tally to 10 major trophies across formats. The 39-year-old Italian has previously won six women’s doubles majors, including two at
Roland Garros, and continues to remain competitive at the highest level of doubles tennis.
For Vavassori, the victory also keeps him in contention for a second trophy this fortnight, as he remains active in the men’s doubles draw alongside Simone Bolelli.
The final followed a familiar pattern of momentum swings. Dabrowski and King took advantage of early instability from the Italian pair to claim the opening set 6-4, but Errani and Vavassori responded immediately with improved serving patterns and more controlled net exchanges.
From the second set onward, they consistently dictated key points, forcing errors and extending rallies on their terms before dominating the match tiebreak 10-4.
“We are living a dream that never ends”
After the win, Errani reflected on the emotional significance of the victory and her long-standing connection with Roland Garros, where she has enjoyed repeated success across disciplines.
“I’m still living this dream that is never ending. This court is incredible. My dreams have come true here. Andrea, you are my best friend, and to share this with you is something crazy. I’m enjoying playing with you too much, it’s too funny. You are too good.”
Vavassori, equally emotional, highlighted the mutual development within the partnership and credited Errani with both personal and professional growth during their collaboration on tour.
“Thank you Sara. You improve me as a player and a person. You are the first person I want to speak with when I lose a match. I’m really grateful to have this journey with you because it’s something I do not take for granted.”
Despite the defeat, Gabriela Dabrowski acknowledged the Italian pair’s influence and consistency at the top level, praising their role in elevating doubles competition.
“You guys are amazing. We look up to you so much. You inspire us to be better and I think that’s what matters in this competition. Thank you for everything you do for the game of tennis and for the game of doubles.”
The win confirms Errani and Vavassori as one of the defining mixed doubles partnerships of the current era, combining experience, tactical clarity and consistent execution under pressure.
