Sorana Cirstea found her way past
Jelena Ostapenko in a superb win for the Romanian 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 at
Wimbledon to reach the third round.
But it was a victory that was fraught with a frosty handshake between the pair who many saw as friends previously.
This was something that Cirstea herself clarified before they faced off in the third round.
Previously playing doubles together, taking holidays and Cirstea visited Ostapenko at her home in Riga as per WTA Romania.
But without going into the nature of their fallout, she clarified the current position albeit praising the game of Ostapenko calling her a 'colleague' over being a 'good friend'.
Never shy of needle/tension especially at Wimbledon with her incident last year with Ajla Tomljanovic, Ostapenko has seemingly not only lost the match but their friendship.
"I would like to let me clarify this matter, we are not good friends that go out to dinner or tell each other confidence," said Cirstea.
"We are simply colleagues. Ostapenko is an extraordinarily good player, much better than she appears at first glance. She has great hands, she's very aggressive. All the matches were difficult for me."
Albeit, Cirstea has also come under fire as of late for her interesting views surrounding outdated views she reposted on her Instagram story.
