Nick Kyrgios has been criticised on social media for his post about Pablo Carreño Busta's withdrawal from tournaments due to injury.
2022 Wimbledon finalist Kyrgios has had a difficult season so far. At the start of the year, he was forced to withdraw from the Australian Open due to a knee injury.
He then had to miss the Roland Garros after a foot injury that he said he received when a criminal tried to steal his car, and a wrist injury put him out of this year's SW19.
Kyrgios wishes fans had been more 'understanding'
Recently, the Australian player hit out at fans' response to him missing tournaments by referencing the news that Pablo Carreño Busta had withdrawn from the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters due to a bad right-elbow injury.
This means that the Spanish player will not be able to defend his title at the Canadian Open, and will drop out of the top 100 in the ATP world rankings. He last played in February of this year.
Replying to the original post by José Morgado on X, formerly known as Twitter, Kyrgios wrote
"Hope he gets well soon. Wish I got similar understanding when missing tournaments with injury."
Kyrgios' comments receive negative reaction
The response to Kyrgios' post has been largely negative, with some accusing the 28-year-old of making the news of Carreño Busta's injury about himself. One user wrote,
"How do you manage to make everything about yourself?", whilst another added "Bro thinks the world revolves around him". Meanwhile, another shared a gif of a scene from the popular animated film 'Madagascar', where a character says "It's always about you, isn't it?"
Moreover, others came to Carreño Busta's defense, with one user suggesting the 'understanding' Kyrgios claimed the Spaniard had received was 'because he's the defending champ' of the Canadian Open, a tournament from which Kyrgios has also had to withdraw.
Kyrgios will be hoping to make a return to court in the run-up to the US Open, and his fans will be hoping that things will start to look up for him soon after a season of setbacks so far.
