Alexander Zverev complained that Court 17 at the US Open "smells like Snoop Dogg's living room", becoming one of many players to say they have smelled weed at the New York major.
Twelfth seed Zverev stormed to victory against Aleksandar Vukic on Tuesday, August 29, in the first round of the Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows.
The German player was on Court 17, where he defeated his Australian opponent in straight sets, winning the match 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. He will go on to face his compatriot Daniel Altmaier in the second round.

Zverev describes strong smell of weed

However, the matches on Court 17 have been so far marred by a bizarre detail, the fact that the smell of marijuana seems to be everywhere.
"Court 17 definitely smells like Snoop Dogg's living room," Zverev said, alluding to the popular American singer who is known for smoking pot, "Oh my God, it´s everywhere. The whole court smells like weed," he continued.
This came after eighth seed Maria Sakkari commented on the smell during her first-round match on Court 17, where she lost to Rebeka Masarova  who took a surprise straight-sets victory over the Greek player.
"The smell, oh my gosh. I think it's from the park," she said.
However, the 28-year-old made it clear that she did not attribute her defeat to the smell of weed on the court.
"Sometimes you smell food, sometimes you smell cigarettes, sometimes you smell weed. I mean, it´s something we cannot control, because we're in an open space. There's a park behind. People can do whatever they want," she said.
While Cannabis is illegal in several countries, it is legal to possess for those over 21 in the state of New York. It is no surprise therefore that it appears to be just Court 17 that is having these issues due to it being much closer to Corona Park than the other courts.
The courts at Flushing Meadows do not allow weed, and there has been no evidence to suggest that anyone in the stands was smoking pot during the matches.
