Making a big name for herself during the clay court season,
Mirra Andreeva hadn't played in nearly a month since Roland Garros where she lost to Coco Gauff in the third round.
But shifting onto grass, it was a first win on the surface for the 16-year-old Russian who moves into Round Two of
Wimbledon Qualifying on Tuesday afternoon.
Andreeva saw off Rosa Vicens Mas 6-3, 6-1. She has previously not even played grass as a junior with her ease through to the senior ranks without taking that route.
In times gone by, such a talent would've been offered a wildcard but both Andreeva and Pavlyuchenkova were denied potential wildcards likely due to being Russian and this being a PR disaster likely for the tournament.
But given her ranking rise, this will be the last time likely that she will play Grand Slam qualifying.
Former finalist Eugenie Bouchard is also facing Belgian, Greet Minnen in the first round of qualifying and is currently at the time of writing is about to go a set down.
