In Saturday night's US Open schedule is perhaps the match of the tournament so far in the women's side of the draw for many reasons between Jessica Pegula and Elina Svitolina. In our Match Preview, we focus on the two players and their route so far up until this point as well as the main talking points between the pair.

Prolific Pegula continues form so far

As ever you could say Mrs Consistency on the WTA Tour barring getting to a Grand Slam semi-final which is a fact she is very much aware of, Jessica Pegula has gone about her business with ease so far.
After winning in Montreal, her joint biggest title to date after winning in Guadalajara last year, there seems to be a new impetus which goes alongside being now ranked World Number Three. Almost a matter of Sabalenka and Rybakina being touted alongside Swiatek has pushed on the 29-year-old American to up her game even further.
Easing past two players that suit her game in Camila Giorgi and Patricia Maria Tig, she now has her toughest test to date and likely one of her toughest en route to the latter stages.

Summer of Svitolina continues

Not much was expected of Elina Svitolina post pregnancy with early ITF tournaments showing that it was potentially set to be a long road back to the top for the Ukrainian.
But after getting match practice in, there have only been a few blips and especially when it has mattered most in the Grand Slams, she has reached the Quarter-Finals in the prior two and will aim to do that again at the US Open.
All of this is very much staggering given that before playing Anna-Lena Friedsam, she was in a boot only last week and on the verge of pulling out of the US Open. But similar to her husband Gael Monfils and also you could say a metaphor for the Ukrainian people, she refuses to give up and continues to fight. After defeating Friedsam, she came from a set down to deny Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and is now two away from continuing her streak and would eliminate one of the tournament favourites if she did just that.

Respect in particular from Pegula ahead of clash

What Svitolina has done coming back so soon hasn't gone unnoticed to Pegula who shared her admiration for the Ukrainian after her last win.
“Elina is so tough. I feel like every single match we play is always just a really good battle. I feel like we play into each others games where we make each other play better & always just have really great matches. It’s great to see her back playing at such a high level so quickly.”
But while she said they always have a really good battle, it often goes in the favour of Pegula who has won three times in four meetings.
They also have recent form facing each other with Pegula winning in three sets at the recent Citi Open Washington. It will likely be a close battle no matter what but one that Pegula will be favourite to win.
