With the conclusion of the 2024 Rome Open as well as tournaments in Paris on the WTA 125k for instance, the Roland Garros Women's Seeds are now confirmed and cannot be changed. Iga Swiatek will lead the way aiming for a fourth French Open crown.
The Queen of Clay of the current era leads the way in Paris and will be joined in her quest by Aryna Sabalenka who has locked in second spot. Coco Gauff was very much the World No.2 elect and still is of sorts, but failed to take over the spot during recent weeks.
Gauff sits third as a result ahead of Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula. But Pegula is a doubt to even play. The American has not played since Billie Jean King Cup last month and said that she was possibly set to miss the whole clay court season due to injury. She withdrew last week from this week's Internationaux de Strasbourg.
As a result, it is likely safe to say that Marketa Vondrousova and Maria Sakkari will move into the top six. But it has also changed around since prior to Rome with Danielle Collins for instance managing to reach 12th. Anhelina Kalinina for instance who was in the top 32 has completely dropped out. Liudmila Samsonova, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Veronika Kudermetova have also heavily dropped.
Those benefitting and those rising in general include Elina Svitolina into the top 16 and Victoria Azarenka into the top 20. Emma Navarro reached the final in Paris but has dropped from 21st to 23rd for instance. Former champion Barbora Krejcikova is also in the top 25 behind Anna Kalinskaya. Sloane Stephens currently rounds out the top 32. Leylah Fernandez will likely be the main benefactor when it comes to potentially Pegula pulling out. She is currently in 33rd place and will head into the seeded spots in event of withdrawals.
Also it cannot be changed despite the fact that Internationaux de Strasbourg takes place this week. This is due to the fact that the draw for Roland Garros takes place on Thursday afternoon so while the tournament is still ongoing so no further additions to the seedings will now be set aside from in event of withdrawals. These though will be known before the draw. These numbers are important as they will be dropped into the draw.
It provides routes for top players and also ones to look out for when it comes to unseeded names who sit outside the top 32 who will play them. As it is a fairly open draw, any number of top names who sit just outside such as Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber among others could yet face a big name early on as has been the case in prior tournaments. But Karolina Muchova is the main miss from the seedings, she will not play this year and is nowhere near returning after reaching the semi-finals last year.
