Taylor Fritz had a really interesting experience at
Roland Garros (French Open) getting booed heavily for a few minutes following his win over Rinderknech.
It happened because Fritz triggered the crowd following his win telling the to shut up after they heckled him for much of the match. It didn't go well for him the crowd kept booing him for a long time making the post-match on the court interview almost impossible. Tournament director
Amelie Mauresmo was asked about that and she admitted that the crowd went too far:
"There is only this evening, or maybe I have missed some,
but I don't think so, there was this famous night when people were
going too far. Everybody was really warmed up on the stands, as well.
Well, there you go."
They did provoke each other so even though it might have come too far it was still a spectacle to see.
Excellent atmosphere
The event generally featured a lot of skirmishes between players and fans as there was quite a bit of booing going on. Even so, the atmosphere on most days was really good with a lot of players enjoying the engagement from the fans. Mauresmo certainly was impressed with the crowd as well calling the atmosphere amazing after the event:
"But apart from that episode, honestly, I think it's
fantastic to have such an atmosphere. The atmosphere during the
quallies, also continues and reach the main draw, and even on Court
14. And after the first week in the main draw, that's fabulous."
So there we have it, another Roland Garros is in the books. It was a good one, a historic one for Novak Djokovic who won his 23rd at the event. Iga Swiatek won her 4th as both she and Djokovic confirmed their status as the number one players in the world.
