Victoria Azarenka and
Sara Sorribes Tormo moved on at the National Bank Open with strong victories over Sakkari Siniakova.
A couple of interesting matches happened today in Montreal which saw two very exciting 3-set matches. In the first one, we saw Sara Sorribes Tormo took on
Katerina Siniakova and defeater her after a 3-hour battle. Sorribes Tormo tends to play very competitive and long matches griding opponents into the dirt and that happened today.
Siniakova took the very topsy-turvy 1st set in a tiebreak after which Sorribes Tormo countered with a bagel. The 3rd set was a great one that saw Sorribes Tormo break down Siniakova to secure the great win for her.
The 2nd match was another great one between two very good players. Victoria Azarenka defeated
Maria Sakkari in a very up and down match that could have gotten either way. This match was largely decided by the serve of Azarenka as ultimately she served better. Both played well when they got their serve in allowing them to take the initiative early.
Azarenka served a lot better than Sakkari in the first and won it 6-4. Sakkari served slightly better in the 2nd set and hit more serves than Azarenka. The Greek won it with 6-3. She could not sustain the great serving percentage in the 3rd while Azarenka had a very good one (above 70%) which allowed her to win the very close set 7-2 in the tiebreak.
