Anna Kalinskaya withdrew from her Last 16 clash with Maria Sakkari earlier today at the 2024 Miami Open which was initially cited as poor health. But the 25-year-old has revealed that she has a right thigh injury.
Kalinskaya thrashed Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-1 yesterday, but said she felt it during the win and as a result withdrew with Maria Sakkari now through to face Elena Rybakina in the Quarter-Finals as the excellent return of the Greek continues into Miami.
"I'm so sorry, I was really looking forward to playing today," Kalinskaya said in a statement released by tournament organisers. "But unfortunately, my health doesn’t allow me. Thank you for your support."
But she went into further detail as to why she withdrew on her Instagram story (below), she wrote: "Unfortunately I could not continue because of the right leg/hip injury I started to feel yesterday. Thank you all for the support."
While this could be merely precaution, Kalinskaya is known for bad injury luck with a leg injury this time last year in Rome side-lining her for three months with her form only just picking up again in 2024 with her Quarter-Final run at the Australian Open and final in Dubai where she was the best player that week. It will be hoped that it will be sorted ahead of the clay court season.
