Belinda Bencic remains in the Switzerland team for the Billie
Jean King Cup Finals tournament.
The 26-year-old, in a post on her official account on the social
media platform Instagram, broke the news of her pregnancy with the caption “Expecting
our little miracle soon! We can’t wait to meet you.”
Despite the news, Bencic remains in the Swiss team for the
upcoming event. The Swiss contingent will be defending their crown in the competition.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see whether Bencic will
remain a part of the group in the future or if the management decides
to call for a replacement.
Switzerland are placed in Group A alongside USA and 11-time
winning team Czech Republic.
Even if she misses out, the Swiss team will be more than hopeful
of retaining their title as they have the services of the likes of Viktorija
Golubic and Jil Teichmann as well.
Bencic has had a difficult year at the highest level where
despite playing in the main round of all four Grand Slams, she did not qualify for the quarterfinal or beyond in any of the mega events.
She played in the fourth round of three major
events — the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open — and on all occasions, she
ended up second-best.
