Queen of consistency: Jessica Pegula first American to achieve feat over World No.1 since Serena Williams

Tennis star Jessica Pegula achieved a new milestone this week at the WTA Finals, becoming the first American since compatriot Serena Williams to notch three wins over the World No.1 in a season.
The World No.5 defeated current World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka on Tuesday at the WTA Finals in Cancun, cruising past the Belarusian in their round robin group matchup. With that upset, the American booked her spot in the semifinals of the year-ending event.

Pegula joins select group of Americans to achieve unique record

Following her win over Sabalenka, Pegula recorded her third win this season over a World No.1. The 29-year old had earlier scored two wins over Iga Swiatek while the Polish star was the top-ranked player this season, joining an exclusive list of American tennis players to achieve this feat.
Pegula joined Jennifer Capriati, Lindsay Davenport and Serena Williams as American WTA players to have achieved this milestone since 2000, with Williams doing it most recently in 2012.
With her semifinal spot already booked , Pegula will face Greek star Maria Sakkari in her final round robin group stage match in Cancun.
