Kiki Bertens defeated Elena Rybakina in the final at the Ladies Trophy in St. Petersburg to win her first title of 2020 season.
There was a lot of buzz around Kiki Bertens in the recent hours. First,
she defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova to set up the final against Rybakina in St. Petersburg and then
she withdrew from Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
Both players met 7 months ago on the grass in the Netherlands where Bertens was victorious. The Dutch wanted to follow up on this victory also in Russia and she proved that with a sharp beginning to the match.
Rybakina managed to win the first game of the match but then she did not stand a chance. Bertens dominated the first set by winning it 6-1 and continued in a great performance also in the second.
Rybakina had up to 5 breakpoints in the second set, but she did not convert any. On the other hand, Bertens converted her only breakpoint in the 4th game to gain a break in the second set which she did not lose later. At the end, Bertens managed to win the set 6-3 to secure her first title of the 2020 season.
