Bianca Andreescu is the latest player to withdraw from the 2020 Tokyo
Olympic Games field ahead of the latest iteration taking place later this month in Japan.
Andreescu who is defending 70% of her ranking in the next two months has decided against representing Canada due to the challenges around the Coronavirus pandemic.
The 21-year-old who will make her return to the US Open defending her title win as well as the Rogers Cup last competed at Wimbledon where she exited at the first round to Alize Cornet and will seemingly focus on the hard court swing.
"I would like to inform you that I have made the very difficult decision to not play in the Tokyo Olympics later this month. I have been dreaming of representing Canada at the Olympics since I was a little girl, but with all the challenges we are facing as it relates to the pandemic, I know that deep in my heart, this is the right decision to make for myself. I look forward to representing Canada in future Fed Cup ties, and competing at the 2024 Olympics in Paris," she said on Instagram.
