American tennis prodigy Coco Gauff has been praised for her maturity at just 20-years of age, and the former US Open champion revealed she had a strong support system growing up, which helps keep her grounded.

Gauff is currently on a quest to capture her second Grand Slam singles title, as she defeated Canadian Leylah Fernandez to book her spot in the round of 16 at the 2025 Australian Open. Awaiting Gauff is Swiss star Belinda Bencic, who advanced to the fourth round after two-time champion Naomi Osaka was forced to retire during their third round encounter on Friday.

Being involved with her community helped shape her personality, admits Gauff

Following her win over Fernandez, Gauff expressed her gratitude to her family and local community, stating they played an important role in her maturation.

"I definitely think my community has helped me," said Gauff. "I grew up in Delray Beach and I have been involved in volunteering in my community. I also grew up in the church, so when you have a community like that you have no choice but to keep your grounding.
"The people that I meet every single day make me realize that tennis feels like such high stakes but it’s really not. I’m so lucky to be able to do what I do, get paid well by doing it and be able to use my platform to give back to others. I’m very grateful.
“The biggest thing I learned last year was to not take anything for granted and just realize that this time is going to go by so fast. Hopefully it doesn’t feel like it in the moment, but I’m sure 20 years on from now I’ll be wishing I could sometimes go back. I’m just trying to enjoy it whilst I’m here."
