Iga Swiatek did something in tennis this year that hasn't been done in quite some time and that's win 30 matches in a row.
There have been players in the past who have done that.
Venus Williams won more than 30 in 2000. It was a remarkable season as she ran off 35 consecutive wins between Wimbledon and Linz, capturing two major titles and Olympic gold.
Williams' unbeatable run was made even more impressive given the injury woes she endured at the beginning of the year. Nursing tendinitis in both wrists, she didn't start her season until April of that year. Though she was never ranked higher than No.3 during her unbeaten streak, Williams tallied five wins against No.1 Martina Hingis and No.2 Lindsay Davenport, including three against Davenport in a final.
After returning to No.1 for the first time since 2010 that in February of 2013
Serena Williams immediately reeled off 34 straight wins between Miami and Wimbledon, winning five consecutive titles along the way. She followed up her Miami title with wins in Charleston, Madrid, Rome, and
Roland Garros, at one point winning 33 of 34 sets.
Another player won more than 30 matches in a row and that was Justine Henin. And finally Iga Swiatek this year. She is expected to win the French Open and if she does that she will come very close to holding the biggest streak of all time. What an achievement that would be.
