"Does she have that belief and commitment?": John McEnroe left 'befuddled' by unpredictable Emma Raducanu

John McEnroe has offered a scathing assessment on Emma Raducanu as she heads towards the US Open with the legendary American 'befuddled' about the Brit.
McEnroe spoke to Tennis365 on the eve of the tournament and admitted that he is a bit like her in being unpredictable about where her game is currently at. Since her return at the turn of the year, Raducanu has shown signs of form. But this has been upended by baffling decisions at times.
She has decided against playing qualifying for a lot of tournaments and ultimately played at her own pace after spending the last year on the sidelines. But this in itself offers no discernable scope for consistency or form.
Even in Cincinnati and Toronto, she decided against qualifying for either tournament after not getting a wildcard and instead has been training in London until this past week. McEnroe was left puzzled speaking about Raducanu and was glad that she is in a better space but does not know how to judge her.
He also questioned whether she has the commitment or the belief to win another Grand Slam and that time will soon tell on that part. "Sometimes I see her and it looks like she is heading back towards the top of the game and then other times I’m a bit befuddled about what’s going on," said McEnroe as per Tennis365.
"I’m not close to her team and what is going on, but I hope she is healthy."There were a couple of matches at Wimbledon and she looked really good and then in the last one, she looked really shaky. It’s hard to know what to say about her. I don’t really know. She is certainly in a better space and healthier than she was a year ago, so that’s good, but I don’t know where she is mentally.
"Does she have that absolute belief and commitment to win something big again or be in the top 10? That I can’t say."

- I love WTA matches. Seek them out as much as possible on youtube and other platforms I already subscribe to. With that in mind, I do not wish to pay $$$ to a notoriously slippery subscription conglomerate sports broadcaster (like SkySports) just for the privilege to watch it and the tnt/eurosport/discovery subscription went from $$ to $$$+ annually in a blink of an eye. With ATP I have been begrudgingly paying xyz tennis only channel and try to catch up on slams elsewhere (pubs, youtube with USO later on games are just as enjoyable to watch and a smart move to upload on their official channel) but they don't cover WTA. I tried another Tennis dedicated channel that advertised originally as broadcasting where I live, but turned out, they took the money, but didn't cover the matches (only fluff/filler value documentaries). I don't understand why it is so hard to not lock the live matches to one broadcaster only refusing so many people who are happy to pay for the privilege just not through that one entry point. WTA is so exciting for the last few years and they really should capitalise on it as much as possible. And I know it is somewhat naive talking without knowing the inner works, but not being able to find any WTA other than youtube (and then only highlights mostly) is just so frustrating.JayJay11-09-2026

- Iga needs to make a decision whether she wants to continue the sport of tennis or pursue whatever she has going on in her personal life. One can tell that tennis is no longer an interest of hers. She should retire while she is on top, not when she slides to the bottom of the rankings. She has too much talent to look how she does on the court these days.
